Both are UFA in the coming season so I suppose it's not a slam dunk that either player re-signs with the Flames if they aren't traded. Hamonic is probably going to be looking for a raise on his next deal and while I think he's a solid defenseman he's not outstanding at anything so I would be weary of overpaying him although I feel he's the kind of player that could be serviceable into his 30's because of the style he plays. Brodie may want to go back east as that's where his and his wife's family reside. I suppose we all knew a few years back it would come to this with Brodie, Hamonic, and Stone all set to become UFA that only one would likely be retained from the three and Stone for sure won't be back which leaves one of Brodie or Hamonic. Like I said before I would be really surprised if they trade Hamonic given what they paid to acquire him but I suppose if they get a 1st round pick back it would soften the blow although it's doubtful they get as high as 1st back as the one they gave the Islanders.
