A LOT of plastic does not get recycled right now. A combined approach of better recycling programs, and better use of plastics to begin with would probably reduce the amount of plastic waste.
Massive tax breaks and incentives should be handed out to any company that is currently recycling plastic in order to produce another product. HDPE is a good example.
I also believe that you can source cardboard from a recycled source, also something that should be highly prioritized. We should do the same thing with plastics. Or figure out a way to use more biodegradable plastic products.
There is no reason Canada can't lead the charge on this, but like a lot of other things, we suck at innovating as a country and instead spend more time bickering around over who buys beer from what province and if they have the right.
