It was funny because I knew it was Ackbar who had this pretty inconsequential death, but he was promptly forgotten by the Leia flying through space scene.
At the end of the day most of the Ackbar lore was delivered in Clone Wars. He was more made famous by one line then anything else, and he had a minor character death that was completely over shadowed.
