I think the underdog tag was largely manufactured. The Als were 11-7 that year and the Stamps beat them both times in the regular season. IMO BC and Saskatchewan were both considered ahead of Montreal as well. I suppose the crowd factor in the Grey Cup itself was on the Als side, but that alone hardly works against the fact that the Stamps that year were clearly the better team.
