Saw a few films this long weekend:
John Wick 3: It's amazing to see where they've taken this story and expanded the world because the first film was a pretty simple movie. This is a movie that shows why we still go to the cinema.
My criticism with JW3 is that it felt like a movie that was connected by action pieces. Story was just there to take us to the next big (but awesome) fight sequence. However, JW1 felt like a movie connected by story with action to take the viewer to the next part of the plot... which is far more interesting to me. Still though, highly entertaining.
Mid-90's: One of those really good films that you only want to see once. Captures the mood and time period of the 90's really well and connected with me as there's a lot of parallels to my own experience in that era. Made me think about the experiences I want my child to have when he grows up.
Velvet Buzzsaw: Swing and a miss. I felt like the satire of the art world thing fell flat and was pretty heavy handed. It tried hard to make fun of pretentiousness but the film itself felt pretentious. Good performances (along with wasted ones, such as an underused John Malkovich) and interesting way to shoot horror in bright light.
