Yikes, I had no idea they were locked in for that long.
The thing with Lowry's contract is that Ujiri overpaid on a per-year basis in order to get a shorter term. The Raptors have so much flexibility coming up in the 2020 summer to either strip it down and do a full rebuild around Siakam, clear cap space to sign another max free agent (admittedly it doesn't look like a great free agent selection yet), or keep it rolling with the current core. All of that is predicated on what happens with Kawhi this summer of course, but with the uncertainty of this summer, the flexibility of next summer is great.
