He embarrassed the on ice talent, during an on ice interview in the playoffs! Marchand is a jerk, but I’m with him on this one.

He embarrassed the on ice talent?

I'm sure Marchand really lost sleep over it.
NHL players and interviews are so bloody boring and bland. Marchand may have taken offense to this, which is weak if so considering you figure with his antics that he would have the sense of humour to play along.
But the HNIC panel grilling him for the lack of answers, and saying he should be fine is moreso embarrassing for them. No one really cares about what they have to say. They're just filling in time betweens the play and ads. If you don't like the answers a player gives in a interview, boo hoo. Choose to interview players that will give you the engageful responses that you want.
But NHL interviews 99% of the time are generic boring speech. Players that have personality and can provide flavour to the interviews at time are extremely rare in the NHL. This is partly why pretty much any player that were stars have never gotten into media after their playing career. They're too boring for TV.
