Detroit's roster is clearly needs youth, but Holland didn't cripple the Red Wings as they transition. This summer they have two old players coming off the books in the form of Vanek and Kronwall. This will give them the better part of 12 M in cap space with no pressing signings. This is coupled with three 2nd round picks.
I have to admit, this is not a bad starting point for the future. The thing is, this took a while to develop, it was an awful slow rebuild for a team that was clearly in need of things to be torn down. I wonder how receptive Oiler fans will be to a slow and steady approach.
