What do all these lore building types of shows all the way back to The Lord of the Rings have in common? The endings are far less satisfying than the expansion of lore. The ending you propose is that Dany comes in lays siege to the Red Keep and burns it down without resistance, then waits at the wall and torches the wites as they pile through. The plot complaints in 7 and 8 have been mainly things they have done to weaken Dany.

Anything else underplays her strategic advantage. The complaint would have been that Dany Sue comes from overseas and just makes the entire previous six seasons meaningless or Dues Ex Drogon ruins show.

I think they could have done better however complaints are getting ridiculous like the poster above wondering why Bran doesn’t tell them what’s going on in Kings Landing. Has he ever shown that he would use his ability for the politics of man? He essentially spent last and this year maneuvering people to kill the night king and not caring about anything else.
It's disappointing because the show has shown it knows how to conclude major storylines and character arcs in the past. For example the initial plot was between Robb Stark, Joffrey, and the Baratheons. All were concluded in very satisfying ways. It's the new writers that have taken over since, and it's just not as good.
