You should probably look at the marketing material. Apple makes no mention of a smart phone. It is marketed as a mobile device. Steve Jobs implictly said this product is a "leapfrog" product intended to skip over the smart phone catagory.

It will have and do these things. Even the iPod can do it now. With the addition a slimmed down version of OS X and the ability to use Widgets as applications, we will see a lot of 3rd party apps developed for this thing increasing its funcionality.
