Being an oil and gas consultant, my boss follows the weather fairly closely and gets excited when things are cold. I had a conversation this morning with him, after he had read a report by a meteorologist that had made several insights as to the weather we are having.
This particular meteorologist predicted that the following 30 days could be an extended cold front, as cool air circulates into the western regions of the continent, only to settle for approximately 30 days before migrating east. It is a cold front that is also complimented with some wind (obviously), but it is expected to remain, and is expected to create some of the coldest winter conditions we will have experienced in roughly 30 or 40 years.
My boss mentioned that in the article, the meteorologist claimed to track weather patterns over several years. His prediction comes with the assumption that what is happening now, already happened in the 60's with similar weather patterns and structures, and we are noticing it again. He also predicted that if this cold front snaps and warms in the next 1-2 weeks, that obviously the prediction would be incorrect and this isn't a cyclical event.
