It's a nod to A-force, not actual A-force. So really, any combination of female heroes will probably work. Though the series didn't achieve the success they hoped for, there were still a lot of comic book readers who are familiar with the series, so it wasn't like a totally obscure reference.
Plus, I don't know how you would execute that scene subtly. You kinda want to make it prominent if you want people to think of that relation. Making is subtle probably won't conjure that kind of image. I liked that scene and am glad they did make it obvious.
