That link seems to beg that nothing goes untouched, but that's not realistic in TV planning. We'd have way too many minor storylines that no one really cares about and go on for seasons upon seasons upon seasons.
Then the same bloggers would be whining about spending too much time on minor plotlines.

Nah - not what I’m complaining about at all. Nor is that what the link suggested at all. The writers had an interesting opportunity to add some depth to Samwell that they would’ve taken in earlier seasons - because these small storylines create characters instead of tropes.
Nobody is hoping that they delve into it deeply, just pointing out that Samwell could’ve been developed better by just paying attention to the details.
I liked that Arya ended the NK. But the series has gone way, way downhill on the writing front.
