All this talk about everything coming up good guys is hilarious now. It wasn't that long ago the internet was ablaze at how harsh the world was to our heros and enough was enough already.
I’d say you don’t really get it: the melted down sword was more of a consequence of Ned’s choices than something requiring consequences for a Lannister. Not every choice and event has had a consequence, but the fun in the early seasons was that unlike most cliched stories, poor choices in Westeros were rewarded with death or very, very unhappy outcomes. You know, like life.

If you can’t see the difference in tone between the series from season 6 on, I’m not sure what to say. We just had the heroes face-off against the evil force that opened the series, and we received no payoff with respect to the motivation, intention, or abilities of said evil force.

I also find your claim strange that we wanted “what we expected” to happen: far from it. I would’ve been happier if the heroes planned so well that they routed the undead and so lived on that way: that would’ve been subversive, interesting, and far better than every major player surviving a pile of wights ten times over. Same outcome, interesting plot.
