I feel like it's accepted now. "Nerd culture" has pretty much become pop culture at this point. I mean look at the most popular movies by far right now: superhero movies. The most popular TV show (GoT) can somewhat fall under that category now too. Video games seem to fall under that same umbrella to me.
I never get when your average person trashes gaming for being an immature waste of time, then turns around and binge watches an entire season of something on Netflix. What's so grown up about binge watching GoT? If anything that's lazier, at least with games you're alert and having to make split-second decisions.
I mean I guess if someone is the type who's always on the go or something, how they could feel that way about it. But that doesn't seem to be the case for your average urbanite. I don't see what's wrong with adult gaming as a way to unwind, or anything to feel ashamed about in this current culture
