And yet, if we’ve learned anything from recent history it’s that whipping up people who already hate the opponent, throwing “tantrums,” theatre, and laying blame are not only welcome in the political sphere, they’re remarkably effective.

From Canada to the US, these things work wonders. You’re describing the playbook of the right over the last half decade, as leader after leader from the right wing gets elected. Really hard to blame the left for trying it out or saying “that’s not politics.”
