"HC Calgary" would be boring as hell, so I prefer the modern convention. MLS is ridiculous when half the league acts North American while the other half channels a major inferiority complex and tries to be European. Toronto FC is bad enough, but Real Salt Lake is just embarrassing. And don't get me started on the absurdity of the new Canadian Premier League's team names.

Historically, our hockey teams did follow old-school naming rules though. Ottawa HC was colloquially known as the "Silver Seven" before becoming the Senators. The first Stanley Cup champions was the Montreal Hockey Club. while following teams were less the "Montreal Shamrocks", but rather a team that represented the Shamrock athletic club, etc.
