They certainly didn't shy away from driving the plot forward in this one either. They paid off a lot of moments that fans were anticipating from season 7 all in one go, setting the stage for a lot of action. Not much suspense around the timing of reveals.
I don't think they want to carve out the reputation of this season on known/anticipated reveals. They're getting them out of the way to make it all about the awesome things we don't know are coming. The characters reacted appropriately and each reunion was given enough time to be satisfying, as much as we'd love each of those exchanges to go on another ten minutes apiece. We still have Jon telling Dany that she isn't the heir, Jorah with the little bear, and Jamie coming face to face with the daughter of the king he slayed, as well as the Starks after Bran. Those will be pretty juicy. Although I feel like they're going to let Jamie off the hook rather easily because of the situational implications.
