The execution stopped at nothing short of an absolute charade.
It's quite clear what message is being sent, with the trial, execution, taunts, when it took place (Sunni holiday) and everything else. It's hands down Shia dominance and will more than likely provoke more violence.
In my opinion, Saddam should have been tried on neutral ground with neutral laws. He should have had to face every single one of his victims at all trials, not just the Shiia one. It's quite ridiculous really, once the main trial concerning the Shias is completed, Saddam gets rushed to execution on a Sunni holiday while those who suffered just as much as well as those who suffered the force of what this "Iraqi Freedom war" was all about (WMDs, Chemical Weapons etc) -- the Kurds -- do not get true justice. The Kurds had just as much of a right to have Saddam stand up and face them in trial as the Shiias did.
Hell, the whole argument of having to execute Saddam before he is 70 and 30 days after the death sentance according to Iraqi law is just bogus. Under "Iraqi law" Saddam was apparently immune and was still in power. Technically speaking, executing Saddam after he was 70 and after the 30 days lapsed from the first trial (going against Iraqi law) is just the same as the trial and execution in the first place (going against Iraqi law).
I was all for the trial and execution of Saddam, but the process and way it was carried out stopped at nothing short of a complete farce and will simply feed the ever so popular divide in that country. If it had been carried out independently, this whole argument and idea of segregating Iraq more and more could have been avoided.
The Iraqi government is not mad at the fact it was filmed by a random cell phone, it's mad because the truth has been told. They filmed the whole thing themselfs, simply blocking out the portions they did not want anyone to see as well as taping without sound. The whole idea the government is going to "bring to justice" those who filmed it is out-right ridiculous, because they filmed it themselfs. They are simply running from the truth and the fact the execution was carried out completely wrong.
The Truth Hurts.
