Kessel was with the Leafs for six years, Kessel lead the Leafs in scoring for six years. Between that time he was 16th in scoring. He was still elite but the Leafs were a joke and he wasn't really a player that could be "that guy" especially in a place like Toronto with the added scrutiny.

Edit: On second thought, Team USA did leave him off the team that one time. More about how stupid management was, but I guess even outside fans he didn't get no respect. The Rodney Dangerfield of the NHL, just a bit fatter.

I just remember how much Toronto fans crapped on him at the end of his time there, and I remember people remarking that he was overpaid. Kessle, for the reasons you mentioned, had always been disrespected before going to Pitt imo. I think Hall has been fairly rated by the hockey world, besides when Oiler fans liked to claim he was better than Johnny.
