The fact that candidates are not showing up to constituency debates is extremely problematic for a number of reasons, including voters not getting to hear directly from their UCP candidate, candidates not having voices of their own (top-down party militancy), and making a sham of the democratic process.
Every candidate should be at these forums as best as they can, considering they are likely going to become the winner in many seats. This suggests to me that the UCP does not want them speaking for themselves, because they don't trust their own candidates to not say bozo things. Khan is right, what are they trying to hide?
If they can't be bothered to show up for for debates against the other candidates, what are they going to do when in the Legislature? Are they even going to show up?
This is concerning on many, many fronts.

I don't need to go back very far in this thread to see the NDP fan club talking about how the UCP should have just shut up and made as little noise as possible.
Now they shut up and make as little noise as possible and that same NDP fan club is upset?
I do agree that they should be there but at the same time, with everything that is going on in terms of candidates shooting themselves in the foot and the fact the NDP who has said a whole lot of nothing other than UCP is bad, perhaps it works to be a smart strategy. I also have a hunch that Mr "I am everything" Kahn is making this sound bigger than it is.
