Both are important points.
I know most Albertans also want progressive rights and freedoms for all, with an equal playing field no matter what the creed. I think we would expect our policymakers to ensure this, so it comes as a surprise we still have to debate it. That said, most people probably don't see this as a priority at the moment because they aren't in the affected groups. And that's OK.
I think we have to hold our politicians to an extremely high standard, and put their feet to the fire constantly. They represent us, so we deserve better than they have been doing the last couple of decades. I really hope the next leader will understand that he or she is going to be under intense scrutiny to perform at 150% - all the time. It's their duty.
After this election I believe I will get more involved politically. I want to make sure the next government is moving Alberta forward, not backwards, but still making bold enough moves to manage our economy collaboratively within Canada.
There is a path forward that doesn't involve vitriol and conjecture, as well as naivety and complacency. I fear the next four years it's going to be one of those two strategies unfortunately.

You're going to be disappointed when you go out and talk to the people. They are as dumb that you've never hoped.
