Former UCP leadership candidate wants finance investigation halted

Former UCP leadership candidate Jeff Callaway isn’t trying to block an investigation by Alberta’s election commissioner into the funding of his so-called “kamikaze” campaign, his lawyer said Monday.

Instead, lawyer Ivan Bernardo said, Callaway’s just trying to halt the investigation until certain questions can be answered.

Bernardo said Callaway and others involved in his campaign have a reasonable apprehension of bias by Commissioner Lorne Gibson based on his investigation to date.“We’re not asking for this investigation to be shut down,” Bernardo told Kirker.

“We’re asking for it to be paused until the court can answer some important questions.”
