its a fair point. having said that while its not their best team (lineup) it is still arguably a competitive one. all 6 of this D have played this year, and its not really resolved (after Andersson) where they slot in the pecking order, so the Flames would seem to be doing a defensible experiment actually. certainly the fact none of their remaining games have any playoff ramifications at all (short of the Flames impacting a few home ice matchups with Eastern teams) does make it easier- in fact the flames may or may not be throwing wrenches in the tank plans of 3 division rivals- secondary bonus!
