I guess it depends on what you mean by a "#1A #1B approach," but more to the point why does it matter?
The playoffs are essentially a new season. I think it is most beneficial if players are playing well before the post season begins, but history shows time and time again almost NO CORRELATION between individual and team performances in March and those in the second week of April. If one of the Flames goalies plays lights-out when the playoffs start, no one will care about who was playing great on 31 March.
