If you play hockey with a puck whether shinny or otherwise, you are always going to be risking getting hit.

if you want to be cool and not wear a helmet and risk hitting your head on the ice, then you are stupid and I don't feel really bad for you. Similarly if you don't wear a face mask and get hit in the kisser, then you deserve to get stitches.

At the very least everyone playing hockey needs a helmet, skates and gloves (and shin guards are always a good idea). If people are shooting at the net and you are around the net, you need to be very vigilant.

I don't think you should feel sorry or even need to apologize - you tought him a good life lesson, one that his parents should have taught him. Next time he will be a little more careful.
