Former Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall has some opinions on Notley's "leadership" in regards to pipelines.

“Rachel Notley’s quote about Alberta being ’embarrassing,’ which I can’t get over to this day . . . sends the wrong message to everyone,” said Wall, referring to Notley saying in September 2015 — just five months after becoming premier — Alberta was like an “embarrassing cousin that no one wants to talk about.”

“She damaged Alberta’s brand.” That was bad but it got worse.

“I have been a bit bemused, hearing from Premier Notley and her description of herself and her government as the champions of the oil and gas sector now, and specifically in relation to a pipeline,” said Wall.

“I was the premier of Saskatchewan when she first was elected and I got to tell you, Alberta was MIA on KXL,” he said, referring to his push to get TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to the U.S. Gulf Coast approved.

“Then she supported (Prime Minister Justin) Trudeau when he walked away from the Northern Gateway pipeline. Remember the court ruling around Gateway was very similar to the ruling around Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain (TMX) pipeline, that has it in pause mode, basically saying more consultation was needed.

“And, finally, on the NEB midstream changes that killed Energy East, (Notley) expressed some mild disappointment but it was very muted. Here was this pipeline that would basically be the new National Dream, which is overstating the fact a bit, but it basically would have helped Canada move toward energy independence and lessen the need for us to import oil from Saudi Arabia and other places, and benefit Alberta, Saskatchewan and all of Canada, and her response was muted and whispered.”

Wall says she’s essentially been missing in action against Bills C-69 and C-48 as well.
