I think that the line of “we have to wait for the platform” is a cop out. How can you be out campaigning if you haven’t got a platform? How do you answer questions on people’s doorsteps? It’s laughable really. I think the public forums are important and the trend of candidates skipping these is disturbing. On a doorstep to an individual, you can say anything and no one else knows. My UPC candidate told me that they’re pro-choice and in favour of LGBTQ rights and GSAs. Would they say that in a public forum? I hope so, but there’s only one way to know.

And if I was Schweitzer, I would show up with a crowd to this march today. “Oh cool, all of you are marching with me to my office? This is great!” Not only would that be an impressive statement, but more importantly it might put help stop using these kids sexuality as a political football.
