There were a lot of really smart posters who though this trade was terrible! Some of the reactions around page 7 or 8 are really great. Very few were calling this as a Flames win. The Fox inclusion really seemed to be a breaking point for most. A few pages later, more optimism starts to appear, and it just gets more positive as you move ahead.
Now, it's a slam dunk Flames win in less than a year. So much drama in one thread!

I think the fact the rumor 2 days prior to the trade was Hamilton for both made the inclusion of Ferland and Fox make people react that way. Also people don’t follow the Canes so they see a 40-45pt forward and a 30pt Dman coming back
One of the reasons I loved the trade immediately was due to the pedigree of the players we picked up. Both former 5th overall picks and both with potential to take massive steps forward. Swedes can sometimes take until they are in the mid-late 20’s to truly break out (Sedins, Backlund) so I had hope Lindholm would “pop” as Treliving put it. This was also a player many thought would be a Flame on draft day so we all knew him. Hanifin was also highly touted and many had him as the clear #3 in that draft after McDavid and Eichel.
I was also a big time cheerleader on the trade Dougie train when many were not a fan of moving him
