This is so Anti-Player
A player gives up his college eligibility in those sports by declaring before they have any guarantees about draft position let alone roster spot. If they guess wrong and end up getting cut they could lose they potential career. It is completely unnecessary to force this risk onto players to protect a teams draft capital.
A simple fix might be to extend the draft rights of college players that the team that drafted them has the right to match any contracts in draft plus 3 and 4 years for college players. This way a team can’t just hold them in college by not offering them a contract but the players still have to go to the team that drafted them.
