I think it's a lot simpler than that.
Wills, like much of the NHL community is just irrationally biased towards the older, more experienced player and elects to turn a blind eye to actual performance. Like how Gulutzan loved his Matt Stajan-Troy Brouwer unit on PK1 last year because "experience" when common sense would show a bunch of random AHLers could have killed penalties better.
