The movie will still make 2 billion dollars, so I'm sure no one will care, but it will be disappointing if Captain Marvel plays a critical role in the finale. If she's some side action like Spider-Man and Black Panther were, that's another story. I get that they've sacrificed story in the past to push their phases forward, but this should be different.
But that's the thing.

You are just assuming she's suddenly being thrown in to come save the day and be some Superman level of power.

IMO she's no more powerful than Thor, and would be no worse then suddenly giving Thor a new super weapon, that's more powerful than his old broken super weapon. Even though they just had a whole movie about him being more than just his Hammer. Or suddenly giving Iron Man some crazy new Nano tech suit without real backstory on how's he's now able to develop said Nano Tech - making him much stronger than his previous incarnations.

Yeah this is the issue with the Mary Sue term - sure the term itself is not sexist. But when people only tend to use it for female characters they don't personally like as a way to dis-credit said character (Rey in Star Wars is the other recent example) then it potentially does become a sexist term.
