The fact the event has taken its rankings from so long ago they aren't even valid is just silly. Felix has been inside the top 100 for 3 weeks now and still has to qualify at one of the premiere 1000 level events on the calendar. I can imagine it would be equally frustrating for players who are narrowly missing out on being seeded at this event to players that are now well below them in the rankings as well.

Seeding is different, the ATP takes seeds on the day of the draw. It's commitments that's 3 or 4 weeks behind.
I think that's fair due to travel, you don't want to be committed to a tournament and then get bumped last minute and have to fly to another tournament. Plus how can you get bumped into qualifying that happened 3 days ago?
It also gives tournament organizers and sponsors certainty.
for example Felix has used his new ranking to commit to Marrakech 250 April 8-14 and Barcelona 500 April 22-28. He cannot be bumped.
