My sister is a Canucks fan, and we were joking the other day that the true hatred for each others teams really only lasted Burrows' tenure there - as they're otherwise just a Canadian team. I want to be ahead of them in the standings, I want them nowhere near the cup, I hate them more than most teams when we're playing them... but I prefer that they're good.
That fanbase was exposed for being pretty terrible though... so they're still my 2nd least favourite Canadian team.

Yeah I do think a big chunk of the Canucks hatred had to do just with that era of the team and less about the franchise as a whole.
I remember not minding them in the Linden/Bure Days.
But they were probably the most hated team in the whole league during the Ruutu, Bieksa, Burrows, Kesler, Lapierre etc days. They just had an ability to find the greasiest most unlikable players during those years.
Now again I'm actually a big fan of Horvat as a player. Don't mind Boeser, and Petterssen. So not nearly as unlikable as they've used to be.
