It's also not very common to have so many ridings where the vote is absolutely non-competitive...I'm going to guess that most of the unfilled ridings have consistently voted 80+% for some combo of Conservatives or Wild Rose...

Kinda hard to find people in those areas who want to invest themselves in an absolutely certain landslide loss. Not much point in the NDP devoting much energy to ticking off those boxes...a weak/rogue candidate is just as likely to be a liability.
