This Flames team scored some really nice goals throughout the season. Now that it's essentially playoff time, nice goals become less and less as time and space disappears.
Gaudreau isn't playing any worse, everyone is just checking and skating harder to defend. He isn't the only skill player to hit a wall when it comes to production.
Look around the league, a lot of smaller and soft skilled players aren't producing as well as they did earlier in the season. The small and skilled players with jam are having greater success, see guys like Zucker (Doh!).
This was the concern with the Flames all year long, is how will their game play in the playoffs. Gaudreau wasn't going to keep his production up and he's straw that stirs the drink for Mony and Lindy and to some extent Chucky on the powerplay.
The hope was that guys like Neal and Bennett would pick up the offensive production come playoff time, but Neal is injured and Bennett has been a huge disappointment during this stretch.
If Bennett isn't going to be a physical force during playoff time or when the game gets tight like it is now, then they might as well trade him, cause his production isn't going to be worth keeping around.
