Yeah as I dig deeper into it some of that is the bottom 6 is carrying that a little bit overall in the last 18. Eye test shows the top line is really struggling at generating good chances and stats prove that.
Gaudreau/Monahan when on the ice together are only 48.3% of High Danger chances in that time frame but 53% of Corsi - so clearly struggling to get to tough areas.
Backlund/Tkachuk seem to just be having poor luck. 56% Corsi, 53% High Danger but an on ice shooting Percentage of 5.62% which is abysmal.
And the team is just dominating chances when Gaudreau and Monahan aren’t on the ice - 56.9% High Danger chances when neither Gaudreau or Monahan are on the ice. So imagine if those two can get going again with the other lines going too.
Another issue is Poor special teams over the last stretch and I think that can make the eye test look worse than they are playing at 5v5 too.
PP: 15.8% (25th)
PK: 80.4% (18th)
Shooting Percentage (5v5): 7.4% (20th)
Save Percentage (5v5): .910 (24th)
When you have all 4 of those things struggling at the same time it can make it seem like the team is playing a lot worse than they are in reality. Think you see the frustration growing with the players too because it’s tough to turn around the bounces.
Gaudreau and Monahan need to snap out of it though, and special teams need to get back in track. Positive thing is that all those things have been successful at different times this year.
