Wish I could be there for the ceremony. Cheer loud!!
When I was a kid in the late 90s (one of Iggy's first seasons), my parents took my brother and I to maybe our second or third game (I remember cheering for Kidd in our first). We were obviously excited so went to near the benches hoping to get an autograph on our new flames flag and vuvuzela (which were really popular then). Many players ignored us and walked by, but one nice guy stopped to sign my flag.
Of course as a kid you're going to fixate on that one name. So that day the only player I watched all game was #12. I finally got his jersey a few years later for my 13th birthday; the horsehead black jersey when Iggy wore an A is now framed. To see his first 50 goal season, and then the city finally get back behind the team in 2004 was amazing.
Some 20+ years later and he remains my favorite player of all time. Can't help but smile even seeing the guy in interviews.
What a class act.
