Typo,

He plays in a sport where a career limiting injury is a real possibility. You don’t take the risk that 100 million becomes 20 million becuase you blew out your ACL.

You hold out once you have a guaranteed contract and the penalties for not playing games is defined rather than take risk. And you don’t even have to miss games just quit showing up to all non mandatory stuff and make it known you are unhappy and want out. Forget to back check, have a Flu every few weeks (are we sure he isn’t doing this already)

None of this changes the fact that if you can sign a contract that pays you 100 million when the alternative is to risk that money to get a shorter contract for less money (total not per year) a year later you do the deal.

It’s nonsensical that people suggest he should have turned it down because of the tire fire in Edmonton.
