For the conference-leading Flames, Fantenberg is considered a depth addition.
Fantenberg, in fact, was in that role for the Kings at the start of the season, appearing in four of their first 12 games. By his final Kings game, on Saturday at Florida, he was a second-pair D-man because of the Jake Muzzin trade and injury to Alec Martinez.
“I was very sad today that he left,” said Kings assistant coach Marco Sturm, who runs the defense. “He went from a healthy scratch to one of our better defensemen. On this team, I think that says it all.”
