In the Summer, Tre probably also thought there was no way the Senators would not have Stone signed by the deadline and that he would be available.
Hindsight is easy, you don't sign Neal in the Summer, Lindholm does what he does, Flames have cap space for Mark Stone, extend him.

I remember prior to the Neal signing I thought the Flames needed another top 6 forward so when they landed Neal I was very pumped. If the Flames didn’t land Neal they may have signed Maroon to a cheaper shorter term deal. They may of had the flexibility to do something with Stone but in the summer the Neal move made so much more sense.
