Think it's more of a case of Columbus overpaying than Vegas underpaying.

Think the contract is part of it for sure, and think Ottawa wanted to make sure they got a top prospect out of these deals and from all accounts Brannstrom is that guy.
Think they probably should have really pushed that the 2nd was a 1st rounder still though.
Overall I think the trade makes sense for Vegas - they can absorb that cap hit and it doesn't really mess with their team cap structure. But likely makes less sense for the Flames with the acquisition cost + contract extension cost in mind.
