Why don't we trust this team that has us in 2nd place overall and find out what we have and what we need for playoff success? Once we're in the playoffs, Treliving will have a better idea on how ready some of the younger players are and make adjustments in the off season when trade prices aren't as high.

Treliving & co. need more information, not to mention obtaining more assets through this year's draft, before making huge gambles.
That said, I'm a little unsure as to why they didn't make a smaller gamble on a guy like Nyqvist. At first blush it seems they could have beaten the price the Sharks paid if some B-type forward prospects were included instead of a 2nd-rounder. Maybe the Wings and other teams weren't interested in what Treliving was offering.
