I am definitely on both sides of the fence... Glad we didn't overpay or sell the farm. I didn't want to see guys like 1 of our 3 dmen kids or perhaps even duke moved.
That being said, I think a deadline acquisition would have been a nice injection of excitement into the lineup. Standing pat is definitely a showing of faith, but at the same time, I wonder how much a NHL locker room is affected by a TDL acquisition, or the lack of one. Especially, when every team in the conference appears to have loaded up.
I am also looking at the price tags on most pickups, aside from Hayes I guess, but for Stone, Simmonds, Granlund, Nyquist, Zucarello, Johansson, I'd be curious to know what the flames equivalent packages were, because the price tags for these guys seem very very palatable.
My guess is not having enough 2nd/3rd round picks and instead having to dip into prospect equity instead was the challenge for the flames.
I'm not angry or considering this a 'failure' by any means, but at the same time, I think being disappointed in today's result is an absolutely fair reaction for flames fans. Especially given the price tags for the forwards who would have looked fantastic in the flames 2nd or 3rd line wing.
