Acceptance is your biggest ally with winter riding. I accept that my bike is going to take a beating, and all parts are replaceable. Nothing is sacred. It's a 20 year old bike. I buy low to mid-end parts for that reason. But it's not an excuse for riding a total beater you let fall apart, either. As soon as it is nice enough I'll give her a good cleaning, replace what is needed, and be good for the summer.
