There are 31 NHL GMs that are constantly discussing players and trades daily. My guess is that less than 0.5% of what gets discussed actually ends up being a trade.
Just because a rumour doesn't pan out it doesn't mean it was fake. Just means that they couldn't come to agreement on a deal that made sense.
As long as the rumors aren't about a players personal life or a personal issue surrounding a team then there should be no issue with people sharing rumors and nobody should have any expectation that all rumors are going to end up being true.
