Hi all,
I don't think I saw this posted anywhere but I found a great piece on the effect that Jagr had on the Flames and on some of their players and organizational decisions. It point's to players such as Johnny, Bennett and Janko specifically.
On a related note, Jagr has officially restarted his professional season with his hometown club in the Czech Republic. He took over a year off after he was cut from Calgary and than was injured fairly quickly by a stupid goon.

I always argued that having a player of Jagr's status, a player who has played through so many different version's of the game that now his style is back in style. His knowledge, his offensive vision, his history and mindset of playing with players like Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Francis and more. The players mentioned above are the leading offensive producers the game has and probably will ever again in a lot of ways.
The caliber of knowledge and cache that Jagr brought to the Flames organization will play dividends for a long time, I only wish that the Flames had handled it a bit better in terms of making sure he didn't rush himself into action at the start, kept him away from Glen Gully bag skating the guy, reached out to him a little sooner so he could have trained to his liking and been ready for the season and really watched him so we could get the max benefit of him in the line up.
I still don't understand why we cut him, we could have shut him down for a few weeks, gotten him healthy and kept him around as long as possible. The season was over and everybody knew it and they were paying him the $1 million salary regardless so perhaps he could have helped out more and maybe seen some game action. Tough to see a legend go away like that.
Either way, sorry about the long post but it's a good piece!
