Sorry for the derailment, but no, Alexander Hamilton never uttered any such thing, not even in his 18th century vernacular. The first attribution to something close enough to the statement to actually provide attribution was by Narcotics Anonymous back in the 80's. The are near statements that have been attributed to primarily early social scientists, but even those statements are nothing close to the common statement that Lin Miranda liberated for his musical. I will say that this just shows the power of suggestion from pop culture. People actually believe that Alexander Hamilton made this statement simply because it was referenced in a mediocre Broadway show tune. I sure future generations will believe that the founding fathers solved their differences by engaging each other in epic rap battles and soaring arias. When is that next extinction level asteroid expected to hit?
