Someone mentioned Pavel Francouz a while back. He would be a total roll of the dice, but might come cheap. He is a 28 year old Czech free agent signing by the Avs. Seems like the age a lot of goalies come into their own.
His European stats were great and showed an upward trajectory and progression in both stats and difficulty of leagues.
In 30 AHL games, he is top 10 in save percentage and has a 1.98 GAA and 0.943 S% in 2 NHL games (both losses though). I know the sample size is small, but at the very least, we could place him in Stockton and then bring him in if something were to happen to Rittich and Smith was failing. Of course, we would likely have to ship out an AHL goalie in return to make room.
Being a cheap player, it wouldn't mean we would have to get rid of Smith and maybe he could be Rittich's partner next season. At this point, I don't have a lot faith that we have anyone in our own system ready.
I guess it depends on whether the Avs are going to resign Varlamov or sign a different vet, or if they plan on going with Grubauer and Francouz next season.
