If this team is serious about moving the first rounder, the only players mentioned that are really interesting are Toffoli ($4.6M), Mantha ($3.3M), and Couturier ($4.3M). All come with an extra year, or three in Cout's case, and fit nicely in the cap space. Moving out Frolik in the deal, or at the draft, pretty much balances out the cap hit increase.
Toffoli would be my target and ultimately may be the easiest to pull in, as he's having a bit of a down year, but I think he has the highest potential to really click with the team. I can see him and Tkachuk immediately gelling and being a massive pain in the ass to play against.
The only thing I don't like about these targets is they really don't address the pressing need of the team. This team needs a goaltender, full stop. I'm not sure I see anyone out there available that I would give up a first rounder for, but this is the area of greatest concern. Maybe a package with Detroit where we get Nyqvist and Howard, but that is a stretch IMO. Howard for a 3rd and a 4th? Still not sure I do that based on the depth of the organization.
Tough deadline as our system doesn't have a lot to move, and there isn't a real perfect fit. If pressed to make a move, Toffoli is the guy.
